Musings on movies, suitable for reading before or after you see them. I write about things I liked WITHOUT SPOILERS. The only thing I hate more than spoilers is reviewers' trashing movies because they think it makes them seem smart. Movie title links are usually links to blog posts. Miranda (2002)
There are some things to like about this English love story/thriller starring Christina Ricci (my two favorites of her work are Ang Lee's The Ice Storm (1997) and Don Roos' The Opposite of Sex (1998), not in that order) as an enigma and John Simm as the innocent guy who gets in way over his head with her. Ricci is dependable, Simm is good, and Julian Rhind-Tutt (as Simm's friend) adds some much needed playfulness. John Hurt and Kyle MacLachlan are in it. There are some interesting overhead shots and other good photography. But I got a bit impatient watching the DVD. See the other two Ricci movies before renting this one.
