Musings on movies, connections, and what to anticipate, suitable for reading before or after you see them. I love movies, watch 2-3 per week on average, and write about things I like WITHOUT SPOILERS. The only thing I hate more than spoilers are reviewers who trash movies because they think it makes them seem smart. When a movie title contains a link, it's almost always a link to my blog posting on the title.

Eden (2008)
There are 17 entries in imdb under the title Eden, which is the second reason Jack and I wondered why it was called that; the first reason is that we didn't hear "Eden" or even "paradise" spoken during the course of the movie (however, I must admit that we had trouble with the Irish accents and were both wishing for closed captions at times, or to have been sitting with Susan & Aongus or Helene & Paddy!). A review of Eugene O'Brian's play, from which he adapted the screenplay, did not have trouble making the connection, though. The movie had beautiful water images and some nice cinematic touches that would be difficult on the page, and the performances, particularly the struggling married couple Billy and Breda Farrell (Aiden Kelly and Eileen Walsh) were moving. This is only supposed to be playing here through Thursday, but I would recommend seeing the nominated films first and catching this on DVD with captions later, unless you are, or are living with, someone Irish.
